South Africa’s newest franchise, the Central Cheetahs represent the predominantly rural high veldt provincial unions of the Free State Cheetahs, Griquas and the Northern Free State Griffons. Free State participated as a stand alone entity in the 1997 Super 12, and from a year later was a junior partner in the Cats franchise.
